El Perro Del Mar – Change of Heart

By Matt  //  Music  //  1 Comment

The official video for Change of Heart by El Perro Del Mar (Sarah Assbring).

One of the best songs of the year (from one of the best albums of the year ‘Love is Not Pop‘, with a truly spectacular video.  Ok, they don’t necessarily go hand in hand and you could perhaps substitute the video with other songs but the feats of strength pulled off by The Golden Power is quite amazing.

3 things from this week

By Matt  //  Jawn  //  No Comments

1 It is not possible to eat too many sausages in one day.
2 Being on a jury is a long, tedious and boring experience.
3 My foot is completely fucked (although as I write it’s getting better).

Attack of the Zombie Skeeters from Outer Space

By Matt  //  Uncategorized  //  No Comments

So this is a film made way back in 2006, just at the end of university.  Myself and Moff who I was staying with at the time decided we needed to make a film, so we rounded up the others who were left in Northampton and the result was Attack of the Zombie Skeeters from Outer Space.  Considering the idea was conceived and filmed in less than 24 hours I think we did a pretty good job.

Anyway, we are thinking of making a new film.  It’s been long enough.  It will either be a reimagining, remake, sequel or something completely different, but right now I think it will have zombies.  While discussing this with Moff he stumbled across something that I was kind of gobsmacked by.  Firstly, there is a ‘zombie movie database’ aka ZMDB and secondly that there is an entry for this silly little film we made.

Not only is it slightly flattering that someone actually took the time to create this (we don’t know who did it) but there is also a review by someone calling themselves Verhoskan.  In all honesty it is a pretty good review as well and he has completely understood the spirit of the film and what we wanted to do.  There was no intention to make somekind of underground masterpiece, just have a good laugh and make something we could remember.

I’m hoping that in the coming weeks and months there will be plenty of updates.  I have plenty to talk about at the moment and also a few old things I’d like to get posted.

Taken by Trees – East of Eden

By Matt  //  Music  //  No Comments

I have listened to quite a few good albums this year; Neko Case’s Middle Cyclone, My Maudlin Career by Camera Obscura but right now I am loving East of Eden by Taken by Trees (Victoria Bergsman, formerly of The Concretes).

It is her second album and a follow up to Open Field which was a released in 2007.  Apparently Victoria recorded some or all of the album Pakistan and you can definitely detect the South Asian influence throughout.  The coming together of the Swedish pop and Pakistan music produces a very subtle album of high quality.  Coming in at just over 32 minutes it feels like an album that has been released because the nine songs work together perfectly, there are no extra songs thrown in to make it look like you are getting value for money (but when it’s on Spotify value for money is irrelevant).

There is also a great cover of the Animal Collective’s My Girls, where TbT “flips it” and comes up with a perfectly fine version of the song in it’s own right.  Here’s the video for ‘My Boys’ and of course you can either buy the album from good record stores or listen to it on Spotify.  I could go on and write some kind of big review but I quit doing that because it was too dull and time consuming.

October 2009 already.

By Matt  //  Jawn  //  No Comments

So I have jury duty tomorrow, I think I can tell people I’m doing it just not about the actual case.  I am kind of looking forward to it, even if it is out of sheer curiosity.

Besides that I am losing one of my jobs, not terrible as I was expecting it.  I will miss the money though, especially with hopefully being driving soon and also Winterfest.

Anyway, I have always enjoyed doodling and over the years become an expert user of Paint on Microsoft Windows so at the weekend I did 4 rather weird pictures.  This is the first one is below, I call it … well I don’t really have a name.  Maybe someone could suggest something (if anyone reads this).

Right, so I have lots of things going on at the moment, in the future and recently so I might actually get round to keeping this updated.
